The DPDP Rules were notified on 13 November 2025 and come into force in phases. For most organisations, that means:

The DPDP Rules are published and the Data Protection Board of India is set up to enforce the Act.
November 2026
Consent managers
Registered consent managers begin operating, giving individuals a single place to manage consent.
May 2027
Full obligations apply
Notice and consent, security safeguards, breach notification and data retention duties come fully into force.

Does the DPDP Act require employee training?
The Act requires organisations to process personal data lawfully and to put reasonable security safeguards in place. Trained employees are one of the most practical safeguards, and records of training help show due diligence.
